Since opening its doors in 1995, Boys Town Residential Treatment Center (RTC) has welcomed children and teens struggling with a range of behavioral and mental health challenges. Our mission is to empower the youth in our care by providing them with compassionate support, essential life skills and the expert medical care they need to thrive.
Our facilities provide a secure, comfortable and therapeutic environment designed to promote healing and personal growth. Staffed by a team of highly skilled and experienced professionals, we are deeply committed to guiding these youth toward a more positive and productive life path.
At our Children’s Center, we offer comprehensive, medically directed care, licensed classroom education and nurturing support tailored to children in kindergarten through fifth grade, ages 5 to 11. For pre-teens and teens ages 12 to 17, our Adolescent Center provides specialized programs designed to meet their unique needs. All our classrooms are structured by grade level, ensuring an age-appropriate and supportive learning environment for every child.
The Boys Town Residential Treatment Center is licensed as a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) by the state of Nebraska and is accredited by The Joint Commission.
This year marks 30 years of hope and healing at Boys Town Residential Treatment Center. We've helped thousands of youth, and their families, find a new path forward. When we started, our mission was clear to help kids heal and grow. Thirty years later, that mission is stronger than ever.
“If I had not come to Boys Town, I definitely wouldn't be alive. Here there were people, countless people, in my corner.”
At Boys Town's Residential Treatment Center, we believe every child deserves hope and healing. We are a licensed psychiatric residential treatment facility for youth ages 5 to 17 and one of the few nationwide serving elementary age children. Our mission is to empower youth by providing the compassionate support, essential life skills and expert medical care they need to thrive.
“Children come to us with significant behavioral and mental health challenges, oftentimes including significant trauma. Our goal is to help them learn positive ways to move forward.”
Our safe, structured and nurturing environment includes 24/7 professional supervision. Each youth receives a treatment plan that's tailored to their needs. Ongoing medication evaluation and reduction is part of the mental and physical healthcare we provide.
But what's truly unique is the foundation of our care. Our nationally recognized psychoeducational treatment model. It uses kindness, empathy, positive reinforcement and evidence-based strategies to teach self-control and social skills. “It's about catching kids being good. We have more than a million teaching interactions a year that do just that. We also train the parents and the guardians in this approach so they can support their child's progress.”
Every weekday, students receive direct grade level instruction by certified teachers in a small, highly structured classroom environment. Evenings and weekends are structured to let kids be kids in a secure and therapeutic environment.
“Here at the residential treatment center, we provide a family style environment. With that, the kids go to school together, do chores together, watch movies and enjoy a lot of activities with each other, all in a healthy and healing environment.”
“Boys Town is a place where you can truly be yourself, you can grow and you can learn to love.”
